Yes, my friends, there is hope for those of us who can’t eat gluten but crave a big bowl of pasta every once in a while. After trying numerous different brands and shapes of pasta over the years, I have found my favorite variety: Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals.
While they may have a funny name, these noodles mean business. The pasta has a hearty, al dente texture and doesn’t fall apart as many other gluten free pastas do. I can honestly say I think the taste and texture of this pasta is better than the “normal” wheat-based pasta I grew up on, so I challenge my gluten-eating readers out there to give this a try!
Many other gluten free pasta varieties exist, including those made with potato, corn, and quinoa. I’m sure I will write more about those at some point, but I wanted to spread the word about the Tinkyada products first since they are one of my go-to foods.
One of the best things about this pasta is that it’s easy to find in grocery stores like Safeway, so there’s no need to go to a specialty store like Whole Foods to purchase it. Finding a jar of pasta sauce is a bit trickier for me, since many pre-made sauces contain soy. However, there are a few exceptions like Classico Tomato Basil that are affordable and easy to find at a regular grocery store.
I have a few recipes I love that include this pasta, and I hope to share them with you soon. Stay tuned!
Tinkyada makes the Trader Joes brand of Rice Pasta as well! It’s usually cheaper and super delicious!
I had no idea! I always thought the Trader Joe’s stuff was sub-par (though the price IS a plus)…but maybe that’s because of the shape of the spaghetti more than anything else? Very interesting though!
I like the Tinkyada a lot. Finding a good brand of pasta was definitely one of my first steps when I had to change my diet. I also really love Bio-naturae brand. I find those to be really good for the al-dente texture. People are always shocked when they can’t tell the difference between gf pasta and regular!
The Bio-naturae brand is so good, but I have to avoid it because their products contain soy. I think they’re tied with Tinkyada for me in terms of what is best from just a straight gfree perspective. And yes, it’s always funny when gluten-eaters can’t tell the difference with gluten-free pasta! Like I said, I think it even tastes better some times…
I’ve had the TJ’s Brand of Rice Pasta. It was amazing. Maybe I should go G-free
